Content description: Oil on canvas painting of artist's wife, Mary, having her teeth X-rayed with faint image of woman in background. Artist had originally painted a portrait of subject, Mary, on the same canvas but did not care for it so he painted Mary X-Rayed over it. Years later the portrait underneath had burned through, upon restoration of the piece the artist chose to allow the image to remain as it had bled through, in a way appearing as an x-ray and adding interest to the painting.
