Growth can distort our priorities unless we are prepared. By the
year 2000, more than half of Florida's population will inhabit our
seven largest counties.
For these metropolitan hubs, the next decade will bring more
of the urbanizing trends already underway. For our smaller counties,
the growth explosion is now only beginning. It is in these smaller
counties that the growth explosion will be the largest.
The map immediately below indicates the 7 counties that will
include 54 % of Florida's population by the year 2000.
