Mr. Jack Cubbedge, Assistant City Manager
City of St. Augustine, Florida
P.O. Drawer 210
St. Augustine, FL 32085
The enclosed proposal is the culmination of many years work on the part of the City, the
National Park Service, the St. Johns County School Board and many other interested citizens and
historic minded groups in St. Augustine. It represents the Commission's best thinking on site
planning for the $300,000.00 grant issued by the State Historic Resources Department for the
Cubo Line and Santo Domingo Redoubt reconstruction project.
The money is available to spend now, and certain engineering work can and should
proceed independently of the final decision on the enclosed proposal.
We desire to present this proposal at the July 26 Commissioner's meeting. If helpful to
the Commission, we would like to suggest a workshop on the subject, which can be held at the
School Board offices, right next to the redoubt site. There, one can step outside to view the
building site and gain perspective on the location and magnitude of the project as well as its
relationship to the surrounding terrain and structures.
This should aid in understanding the reasoning employed by the Presidio Commission
members in arriving at its conclusions in the proposal. Alternately, Messrs. Toner, Wilson, Hall
and I would be happy to meet with any Commissioner for a personal presentation of the proposal,
either before or after the July 26 meeting.
