History of the Monument
Dr. Carlos Ripoll
Carlos Ripoll exiled himself from his native Cuba in 1960. Dr. Ripoll is
Professor Emeritus of Queens College, of the City University of New
York, and the author of several books and articles on Jose Marti, as
well as others in Latin American letters, history and politics.

Dr. Cecile-Marie Sastre
Dr. Cecile-Marie Sastre earned her doctorate in history at the Florida
State University. An authority on Spanish Colonial military history and
fortifications, Dr. Sastre has closely examined the original documents
that described the construction of the Constitution Monument. In
addition, Dr. Sastre has been conducting research on the Irish
migrations to Spain and Spanish America after 1600, and the Irish
presence in the Spanish continental and colonial armies after that
date.
