Festival of Empire,

LORD PLYMOUTH S HOPES FOR NEXT
YEAR,

A reception was held at. the Orystal
Palace on June 9th if convection with
the pdstponed Feataval of Empire and
Pageant of London, from ten to twelve
thousand people accepting tho Snvita-
tion of the Earl of Hpmouths cbalr-

the orchestra platform of the Ventral
Transept, Lord Plymouth said thie
was an opportunity he had Idoked
forward to, because it enabled him to
say a few words on behalé of the
Council of the Festival of Empire
which could not be leftunsaid, ‘They
tendered their most sincere and
earnest thanks to those who had given
their yoluptary services towards the
Pageant. It “would have been !m-

ssibla to have held thie great

Pageant without having the co-opera-
tlon of so many thousauda of good
friends, and they were deeply thaok-
fultothem, He made one appeal to
them, that they should retain the
interest which ¢ 7 had shown inthis
great echeme and give their services
next yeac, The workers knew the
painful and distressing circumstances,
which they deplored ia common with
the whole of the Lritish Kinpire. and
which the Council felt it right and in
consonancs with the wishes of the
people taking partta compel them to
atpone the Festival. it was the
Jouncil’s fatention and earnest hope
to make thie Iestival a great success
next year, and to make it part of the
Co~onation ceremonies. The Council
desired the kind assistance and co
opefation of those before him, and
then they would be sasured of a
great success, (Cheers,)
