Abstract: |
These images are a georeferenced hydrographic compilation smooth sheets (H-sheets), most of which were created by the U.S. Coast Survey. The National Ocean Service, Silver Spring, MD, which archives the original (paper) H-sheets, provided the film negatives scanned to produce these images. Purpose: These hydrographic "compilation smooth sheets," or H-sheets, display the full array of point depths, interpreted depth contours, and bottom conditions collected by field parties. H-sheets (along with corresponding topographic maps, or T-sheets) were tools used in the creation of nautical charts. |

The National Ocean Service, Silver Spring, Maryland, generously provided the negatives from which the map images were scanned. The St. Johns River Water Management District funded scanning, image processing, georeferencing, and archiving these map images. The Florida Sea Grant College Program (University of Florida, Gainesville) performed the image processing, including georeferencing/rectification. |
