DE MESA SANCHEZ HOUSE
Architecture
House dates from the first Spanish period when it was a one-room house with a
separate kitchen. It has been restored to the 1830's, the American Territorial
period (1821 1845). There are windows on inside walls and two porches have
been enclosed to form rooms.
Activity
There is a guided tour on the hour and half-hour. This house has antique
furnish-ings. Since research has been unable to document the name of the
inhabitants of this house, the interpretation focuses on a typical
(hypothetical) family in the year 1837 -- fairly well to do with a live in
servant. Office and waiting room in front on St. George Street for business
and the back and upstairs away from street noise and dirt are for family
living.
