Office of Educational Research Bulletin (ORB)

News & Notes

"May you live in interesting times" is
reputed to be the first of three ancient
Chinese curses that one heaped upon
one's enemies. Like it or not, we are
certainly living in interesting times in
the College of Education. The budget
shortfall and resultant reorganization
alone will necessitate many changes that
will affect us all and make life very
interesting indeed.

Things will be no different in the Office
of Educational Research (OER). As the
Interim Associate Dean of Research &
Faculty Development, my
responsibilities include overseeing the
activities of the OER, managing all
aspects of faculty development (e.g.,
tenure & promotion), and providing
services related to graduate education.
Despite a broad and varied assignment,
the primary goal of the OER for the
upcoming academic year is to continue
to provide the full array of outstanding
services to researchers that it provided
under the direction of Dr. Paul Sindelar.
The OER is in great shape and has an
excellent staff. I have no doubt that we
will be able to meet this goal. It is
important to underscore that the OER is
largely Paul's brainchild. We owe him
much for his vision and leadership over
the past few years. Thanks Paul!

In case you were wondering, the other
two ancient Chinese curses, in
ascending order, are: "May you come to
the attention of those in au thority and
"May you find what you are looking for."
Fortunately, "May your spam filter fail" is
not one of them.

Best wishes John
