Abstract:
Color film with sound showing scenes from the Florida Gator Band's pregame and halftime shows during the 1960 Homecoming game against Tulane University, which the eGators won 21-6. The pregame show occurs during the first 00:06:41 of the film. As the band enters the field, the announcer recognizes drum majors David Brooker and Les Smith as well as the Gatorettes, who are lined up at the north end zone opposite the band entering through the south end zone. The band plays "Suwanee" (George Gershwin) as its entrance tune and then "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans" (John Turner Layton Jr.) in a salute to the Tulane football team. At 00:01:44, as the band plays "Let Me Call You Sweetheart (Leo Friedman) a Ford Thunderbird enters the stadium carrying Homecoming Sweetheart Libby Baker, Anne Sisler and Judy Lynn Prince, who were the two other finalists for the honor. The Gatorettes then perform to the tune of "The Promenade Blues." At 00:04:53, the band strikes up the National Anthem as the film focuses on the US Flag at the north end zone. There is a wide shot of the band and color guard. The band leaves the field and the Gator football team, led by the cheerleading squad, runs onto the field at 00:06:44. Tulane returns the opening kickoff. At 00:07:46, the halftime show begins. The announcer recognizes the Gatorettes and the band plays "Orange and Blue." Next, the band forms a monogram for Homecoming 60, and plays an audience participation song followed by a mambo. The Pep Club card section makes pictures in the stands. At 00:12:40, the band plays the "Bullfight Song" as band members form the outline of a bull's head. The band then strikes up "El Toro" as the crowd yells "Olé!" After the band forms the letters "UF," the crord is asked to sing the Alma Mater as the band plays the tune. The camera shows Century Tower as the singing continues. The band ends the show with "Dixie", and the game resumes. ( English )
