VOL. LXXVIII. THURSDAY, 7rs DECEMBER, 1950. No. 104.

Extension of certain Defence Regulations.

By section 8 of the Supplies and Services (Transitional Powers) Act, 1945 (Imperial), the
said Act, which came into force on the 10th December, 1945, was to continue in force for a period of
five years after the passing thereof and then to expire, unless His Majesty by Order-in-Council directed
that it should continue in force for a further period of one year.

2. The Act would otherwise expire on 10th December, 1950, but in view of an Order-in-
Council of the nature above-mentioned having been made by His Majesty on the 2nd November, 1950
the duration of the Act is further extended to the 10th December, 1951.

3. It is by virtue of this Act that Regulation 50 of the Defence (General) Regulations,
1939, (which empowers a competent authority of this Colony to make orders for tke general control of
industry) and the Defence (Finance) Regulations, 1942 (which control, among other things, the
importation and exportation of foreign currency into and from the Colony) were continued in operation,
and these would, in the absence of action taken as indicated in paragraph 2 hereof, cease to be effective
after the 10th day of December, 1950.

4. Accordingly by the extension of the duration of the Act to the 10th December, 1951,
Regulation 50 of the Defence Regulations, 1939 and the Defence (Finance) Regulations, 1942 will
continue in force throughout the Colony until that date.

5. The text of the Order in Council of His Majesty so extending the duration of the
Supplies and Services (Transitional Powers) Act, 1945, is herewith published for general information:—

“At the Court of Buckingham Palace the 2nd day of November, 1950.
Present
The King’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council.

WHEREAS by section 8 of the Supplies and Services (Transitional Powers) Act, 1945
the said Act is limited to expire on the tenth day of December, 1950, five years after the
passing thereof unless continued in force under that section:

AND WHEREAS it is provided by that section that if an address is presented to
His Majesty by each House of Parliament praying that the said Act shall be continued in force
a further period of one year from the time at which it would otherwise expire His Majesty
may by Order in Council direct that it shall continue in force for that further period:

AND WHEREAS such an address has been presented to His Majesty by each House

of Parliament as aforesaid:

NOW, THEREFORE, His Majesty in pursuance of the said section 8 and of allfother
powers enabling Him in that behalf is pleased by and with the advice of His Privy Council
to order and it is hereby ordered as follows:—

1. The Supplies and Services (Transitional Powers) Act, 1945 which would other-
wise expire on the tenth day of December, 1950 shall continue in force for a further
period of one year until the tenth day of December, 1951.

°”

2. This Order may be cited as the Supplies and Services (Continuance) Order, 1950
and shall come into operation on the fourth day of November, 1950.”
