PRESS RELEASE
His Majesty has been plea ed tu approve
the immediate award of the British Em-
pire Medal to Mr. Thomas Ince of St.
Vincent.

The award of the King's Commendation
for brave conduct to Mr. Stanley Suther-
land, also of St. Vincent, has also been
approved.
Mr. Ince is 20 years old, and a Lines.
man in the St. Vincent Electricity Depart-
ment. Mr. Sutherland is a motor vehicle
driver of Kingstown.
While servicing a transformer at Arnos
Vale, the electrician, Mr. Ira Young, came
into contact with live electric wires and
was immediately rendered unconscious.
Mr. Ince, who was following Mr. Young up
the ladder to the transformer, realising
what had happened, got up near him and
cut the live wires with his insulated pliers
and held Young from falling. The body
weight of Mr. Young, who was at the time
almost I feless, was supported with great
difficulty amidst the live electric wires. Mr.
Ince was then assisted by Mr. Sutherland.
The slightest error of movement might

have proved fatal to all three on the ladder.
The current was eventually cut off and
Mr Young was lifted down and taken to
the Colonial Hospital.
