Applications for Scholarships under the
Caribbean Vocational Training
Scheme, l157.

THE Grenada Government has been informed
of the arrangements proposed by the Foreign
Operations Administration of the United States
of America for the consideration of applications
for vocational training in Puerto Rico in 1957.
Foreign Operations Administration are particularly
anxious to assist those territories which lack
vocational training facilities locally.
A limited number of applications from the
British Caribbean territories will be considered.
It should be noted that facilities are offered
under the Scheme for 1957 in institutions in Puerto
Rico other than the Metropolitan Vocational
Many of the courses have been planned to last
one year but others will be of shorter or longer
duration depending on the needs of the trainees
Applications will be considered from persons
between the ages of 17 and 35 years only and
should be addressed to the Secretary, Public
Service Commission, Government Office, St.

the Registration Officers claims for inclusion
of names of would-be voters in the preliminary
lists as posted all over the island is Friday, 28th
June, 1957. That is also the last day for filing

Appointment of Regional Agricultural Econo-
mist to work on inter-territorial trade
on foodstuffs.

AN Agricultural Economist is required imrre-
diately to carry on an existing project for
investigation of the present and potential food
production and consumption in the British West
Indies. Minimum qualifications:-
A degree in Agricultural Economics with 2 years
Post-graduate training preferably in Field Market-
ing and Statistics. Practical experience in Field
of production Economics would be an advantage.
Salary will be fixed according to qualifications
and experience within range of [1250 to [2100.
The selected candidate will initially be based at
Barbados and subsistence allowance will be payable
for travelling on duty elsewhere. The appointment
will be on contract for a period concluding 31st
March, 1960.

onward transmission to the Secretary of State for
the Colonies.

Post Of Assistant Legal Draftsman, Attorrey
General's Department, Barbados.

APPLICATIONS are invited for appointment to
the above post.
Appointment and Salary: The post is pens-
ionable with Salary in the scale $4,560 x 192-
5,520 x 240- 6,240. Appointment will be subject
to medical fitness and a probationary period of
two years. Salary is subject to deduction at the
rate of 4% per aniurn under the widows' and
orphans' Pension .-cheme.
Qualifications : Each applicant should be a
qualified Barrister-at-Law or Solicitor preferably
with some experience of drafting of legislation.
Duties : The duties of the officer will consist
of drafting of legislation, giving legal opinions and
advice to Government Departments, conducting
cases in court, including criminal prosecutions,
and such other legal work as may be required
from time to time.
Quarters : No quarters are provided.
Passages: Passage expenses of officer and
family are payable on appointment up to a maxi-
mum of $1,920. Leave passages are payable
every three and a half years in accordance with
the Civil Establishment (Leave Passages) Order.
Leave : Leave is granted in accordance with
Local regulations.
Applications stating age, education, qualificat-
ions and experience should he address .d to the
Chief Secretary, Government Headquarters, Bay
Street, St. Michael, Barbados, to reach him not
later than 15th July, 1957.


PPLICATIONS are invited from single women
Between the ages of 19 and 30 years for the
post of Woman Police Officer in the Grenada
Police Force. All applications must be in the
hand-writing of the applicant. Following condit-
ions of service will app'y.
(i) Salary will be in the scale of $672 x $24
(ii) Post is pensionable.
(iii) Free uniform will be provided.
(iv) Quarters are not provided but a Rent-in-Aid
Allowance is being considered.
(v) Free Medical and Dental treatment is

SPPLICATIONS are invited from suitably
S qualified candidates for appointment to the
post of Senior Draughtsman, Windward Islands,
particulars of which are as follows:-
Appointment: The post is non-pensionable, and
appointment will be on a temporary contractual
basis for a period of 18 months in the first in-
stance. The officer will be subject to the Colonial
Regulations and the local General Orders for the
time being in force, so far as they are applicable.
The officer will be a member of the staff of the
Executive Archi:ect, Windward Islan'ds, and will
be stationed in St. Lucia.
Qualifications: Applicants should have had at
least 5 years experience of work usually under-
taken by an Architect's Office and be thoroughly
conversant with the preparation cf working draw-
ings and specifications.
Salary : The Salary will be at the rate $3,360
(700) per annum in tle scale $3,360x $120-
$3,600 (700 x 25-750) per a, num, plus a piy
addition of 20% of salary.
Quarters : Quarters are not provided.
Passages : Free passages to St. Lucia will be

provided for the officer, his wife and children, not
exceeding 5 persons in all; children to be under 18
years of age, unmarried, and dependent on the
officer. Free return passages will also be provided
on the satisfactory termination of the period of

ment and for the planning and execution of Public
Works development schemes as well as the general
supervision of all aspects of the department's
work. By virtue of his office the officer is a
member of various Boards and Committees. He
will also be required to perform such other duties
as may from time to time be assigned to him by
the Administrator.
5. Qualifications: The officer must be a
Corporate Member of the Institute of Civil
Engineers, or hold some qualification of equivalent
status and should have good administrative ex-
perience and ability.
6. Quarters : Quarters are not provided.
