IT is hereby notified that pending the return to the Federation of His Excellency the Governor-General,
the Deputy Governor-General, MR. JOHN S. MORDECAI, C.M.G., on his resumption of office following a period
during which he was, due to illness, unable to perform the functions of the office of Governor-General, has
now resumed the functions of that office under article 4 (1) of the Constitution of The West Indies with
effect from the 11th day of August, 1961.

TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME
WHEREAS by paragraph (1) (a) of article 74 of the Constitution of The West Indies it is provided that the
Chief Justice of the Federation shall be appointed by the Governor-General, after consultation with the
Prime Minister, by instrument under the public seal:
Know therefore by these presents that, after consultation with the Honourable the Prime Minister, I
do hereby appoint Sir STANLEY EUGENE GOMES to be the Chief Justice of the Federation as from today
the first day of August, 1961, to have and exercise all the functions and authority appertaining to that office,
in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of The West Indies.
In Witness Whereof I have caused these letters to be made patent and have caused to be affixed thereto
the public seal of The West Indies.
Given at Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, this 1st day of
August, 1961, in the Tenth year of Her Majesty's

TRANSFER OF SHIP "FEDERAL MAPLE"
THE WEST INDIES
IT is hereby notified for general information that the Honourable W. ANDREW ROSE, Minister of Communi-
cations and Works, has in exercise of the authority and power vested in him under the West Indies Shipping
Corporation Act, 1961, by instrument under his hand transferred to the West Indies Shipping Corporation
the ship M.V. "Federal Maple".
POSTINGS OF PERMANENT SECRETARIES
MR. F. D. C. WILLIAMS, C.M.G., returned from vacation leave on the 1st August, 1961 and resumed his
substantive appointment as Permanent Secretary, Prime Minister's Department.
2. Consequent on the above, the following postings have been made with effect from the 1st August:
(a) Mr. O. E. HENRY, Permanent Secretary in administrative charge, Prime Minister's Department
assumed his substantive post as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
(b) Mr. J. F. HORSHAM, Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has
been assigned to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Agriculture to act in a similar capacity.

AUDITOR GENERAL OF THE WEST INDIES FEDERATION
IT is hereby notified for general information that consequent on the departure on vacation leave with effect
from 12th May, 1961, of Mr. I. V. G. MACKAY, M.B.E., Director of Audit, Trinidad and Tobago and Auditor
General of The West Indies Federation, Mr. M. V. LEE SING, who has been appointed to act as Director of
Audit, Trinidad and Tobago, -will be performing the functions of Auditor General of The Federation until
Mr. Mackay's resumption of duty.
