His EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL left Trinidad on the 21st June, 1959, on an official visit to Barbados.
His Excellency is expected to return to Trinidad on the 24th June, 1959.

APPOINTMENT OF GOVERNOR-GENERAL'S DEPUTY

THE Instrument appointing MR. L. N. BLACHE-FRASER, C.M.G., Acting Federal Secretary, to act as Deputy to
the Governor-General, during the latter's absence on a visit to Barbados, is published for general information.

WHEREAS by article 4 of the Constitution of The West Indies it is provided that, whenever the Governor General-
(a) has occasion to be absent from the seat of the Federal Government but not from the Federation, or
(b) has occasion to be absent from the Federation for a period that he has reason to believe will be of
short duration, he may, by instrument under the Public Seal, appoint any person in the Federa-
tion to be his Deputy during such absence and in that capacity to perform on behalf of the
Governor-General such of the functions of the office of Governor-General as may be specified in
that instrument :

And whereas I, PATRICK GEORGE THOMAS, LORD HAILES, Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief of The
West Indies, have occasion to be-
(a) absent from the seat of the Federal Government, but not from the Federation, during the course of
a visit to Barbados, and
(b) for the purpose of that visit, absent from the Federation for periods that will be of short duration :
Now therefore, I the said PATRICK GEORGE THOMAS, LORD HAILES, in pursuance of the powers conferred
upon me in that behalf by the said article and of all other powers me thereunto enabling, do appoint you the said
Louis NATHANIEL BLACHE-FRASER to be my Deputy during such absences and in that capacity to perform on
my behalf all the functions of the office of Governor-General vested in me, subject, however, to such instructions
as I may from time to time address to you.
Given under my Hand and the Public Seal of The West Indies
this 20th day of June, 1959, in the Eighth Year of Her
Majesty's Reign.
