Attention: The Honorable Derrill McAteer, Chairman
We are greatly concerned at the proposal to permit a well field
east of Lake Tarpon which will substantially affect the aquifer
in northwest Hillsborough County, will overlap St. Petersburg's
cone of depression at the Cosme-Odessa well field, has already
precipitated a request from St. Petersburg to lower its level
to permit it to continue to take the same amount of water that
it has been taking from the Cosme-Odessa field which will reduce
the monitor well levels in that area, which will very likely
result in further salt water intrusion into the aquifer in an
area where this should not be permitted.
Your Board has in the past declared Northwest Hillsborough County,
Pinellas County and Western Pasco County as water shortage areas.
We are absolutely opposed to any commercial wells or well fields
being permitted in the areas that you have designated as-areas
of water shortage.
We request that you adopt a policy that you will not approve in
the future any further wells which are to be commercially used
to supply water to persons outside the property upon which the
wells are located. In other words, we ask you to adopt a policy
to stop any further well drilling unless the water to be taken
from such well is to be used by the person and on the property
from which the water is taken and that no further wells for com-
mercial use be permitted.
Thank you very much.
