MN Dear i.ife

I am in receipt of yours by the Roanoke Feby 23 your letters
by her I received through my Box not knowing I had one assigned to me
Now in reference to our house I am not sure but Mr. Carpenter would
taLj the first srortP.7e of $2000 he did almost do it two years ago Tell
to see him and get him to do it or perhaps Mr. Hoses would
purchase the house I will sell it at '7500 and he pay the arrears of taxes
for 3 years which is now due The House need not be sold or sacrificed
as any person can certainly raise i.-20, on property 3000 Th3
:':.20 is the first 'lort ver- soon real estate will advance hor -vr if
it cannot be kept let it go but it seems to me that Mills can raise
2000 first mortgage and I think Mr, Carpenter will do it The contract
I mentioned for Gas Works is not my own individually but all I do have
is few and Mr. Green would have something to say If I can get
through with this Gas contract without loaning much money ( and I do
)we Zhall be prepared to take hold of some other
contracts next season in which we can nzalke money The on- in Guines is s o
mni:-:ed up with the affairs of Woodworth that it will be a Food, thing if

received a very favorable reply to one I wrote the Governor of Mancinillo

had the noney nut it was not called for and afterwards it hd,:' to be used in
our business I am sorry and he says he has not paid my coal bill I
hope he will intent on the mortgage If we had all our capitol at
hand we could make money in these contracts by giving our attention
.and not be obliged to carry out foolish .Wood-rorths broken do-rn barS.ins -
I ca n get any amount of orders here for goods psp abl3 upon arrival here
if I could give my attention to it I send by this steamner orders
which is cash on arrival for over 1000 and have now an order to
build a large lot of sugar crushing .machines at 'E.) a piece and
e:-ecct an order for 2 s team fire en!i-nes at about $500. each for the
City oP -!Tavana I send by this stear.er an order for a ls.rre Boiler
for a out side of the Walls Walter will return by the next trip
of the "olu:,bia You may tell Mills to advise with Mr. Green in
reference to the foreclosure of the House as its on the Mortgage
"looO which he holds in trust I should myself feel easy if it did
pass out of our hands. The possession of property like that under
-the circumstances is anything but playing a nd as for Ella I will try
and have a house by the time her bowscome along Walter was down to the
