Today it seems everyone is moving toward becoming "green"
and detoxifying their life. While this may be a new concept for
some, we've been doing it for over 86 years. Mr. P. F. Harris
was commissioned in 1922 to rid
the White House of roaches and
other pests. Harris "Famous Roach
Tablets" were so revolutionary,
they were granted a patent and
are now the oldest EPA registered
roach killer in America. Made
with boric acid, and our famous
special lure, roaches can't resist
eating the tablets. Sold for years
in Publix Super Markets and
hardware stores, today Harris
Famous Roach Tablets are being
discovered by a new generation
looking for a greener, and
effective way to kill a roach.

Tigers try to

topple Bulldogs

In week one, the Graceville Tigers and
Marianna Bulldogs both looked like world-
Tonight, they'll be content to just try to beat
each other.
The Bulldogs 'and Tigers hook up in
Marianna tonight at 7 p.m. for the fourth
straight season.
After three straight losses, the Tigers hope
the fourth time is the charm.
"We want to beat; them, of course,"
Graceville coach Todd Wertenberger said
Thursday. "When they beat us my first year
here, we were just terrible. Last year, we had
them pretty good in the first half and they came
back and beat us.
"We just want to play a complete game.
Hopefully, we'll come out a winner, but as long
as we come out and do our best, that's all we
can hope for."
The Tigers led Marianna 22-7 early in last
year's game in Graceville, only to see the
Bulldogs reel off 36 consecutive points to take
a 43-22 win. -
The year before, Graceville was blanked 34-
0 by MHS and the Bulldogs took a 34-24 win
over the Tigers in 2005.
That's plenty of material to motivate the
Tigers, but Wertenberger played down any talk
about seeking revenge.
"It's just like I always say, it's an ordinary
week for us. We always do the same thing and
we're doing everything we usually do,"
Wertenberger said. "There's no bigger game or
smaller game. We treat them all the same.
"If we get real excited about certain games,
we may have ups and downs during the year.
I'd rather play consistently all year round.

"We want to beat them, of
course... We just want to play a
complete game. Hopefully, we'll
come out a winner, but as long
as we come out and do our best, ..
that's all we can hope for."`
-Toddl Vertenbierger
Grace'ille coach
There's enough excitement in game. \Ve try to
take a little bit of excitement out of it afid make
it as business-like as possible."
Marianna coach Rob Armstrong said that.
while these matchupshave no playoff implica-
tions, they typically take on an added intensity)
due to the familiarity of the players on both
"Without a doubt." the coach said about a
playoff atmosphere. "These are two good foot-
ball teams and our kids \ill see their kids all
the time aft&r this game. They'll see them at
church. at Wal Mart. etc.. so it's a big deal. I
hope we'll be up for the challenge."
The Bulldogs certainly appeared up for an\
challenge in their regular season-opener against
Blountsto%\ n. as MHS blistered the Tigers 34-7
"It was a great \ay 'to start the year."
- Armstrong said of the game. "Defehsivel),
other than one drive, we played good football.
I'm pleased, but \e knowt that we've got anoth-
er big one (tonight)?."
Graceville was equally impressive in its
debut, a 36-16 thumping of Libert) County in"

team's effort; but still felt there \(ere major
improvements his team would have to make in
prder to beat Marianna.
"Our offense played well, but our defense
really looked terrible against Liberty County,"

the Tigers coach said. "I told the kids that if we
don't get things fixed, (Marianna) will put 40
on us. They'll carve us up. Liberty County ran

Hornets have tough

act to follow against

Liberty County

After opening the regular season
with a dramatic, come-from-behind,
32-24 win over Jackson County rival
Sneads, the Cottondale'Hornets will
have a tough act to follow tonight.
The Hornets (1,-0), are again at
home tonight against the Liberty
County Bulldogs, who are looking
for their first win of the season after
falling 36-16 to Gractville in week
The Bulldogs atso lost their pre-
season classic to Blountstown 20-0,
though CHS coach Mike Melvin said
that the team his Hornets will face
tonight isn't the same one he watched
on film against Blountstown and
"They had a lot of kids suspended
before the Blountstown game, pretty
much their entire backfield, and
against Graceville, their starting
quarterback was out, so it's really
hard to go'by their first two games'
scores when that many key players
are not on the field," the coach said.
"I'm sure those guys are ready to go,
so it will be a big challenge for us."
Terrance Evans is the quarterback
for the Bulldogs and Melvin's

Hornets got a good look at him dur-
ing the spring when Liberty Count,
defeated the Hornets 20-0.
"(Evans) adds another dimension
to the offense," Alelh in said. "He's a
good player. He's about 6-3 .and he
can run and throw. We'\e seen that
kid and their backfield in place, so
our kids have worked real hard and
understand what we'll face.
Blountstown and Graceville didn't
get the full effect of how good they'll
"I'm sure they're highly motivated
to try to get in the % in column before
they start their district games."
Aside from a Bulldogs squad at
full strength, the" Hornets' biggest
challenge may be avoiding a letdown
after the emotional win over Sneads.
Melvin, however, said that should-
n't be an issue.
"That game was over after Friday
night, really," he said. "When
Monday's practice started, we were
right back to focusing on ourselves.
We just have to work on fundamen-
tals and improve on our mistakes in
the Sneads game."
For the second straight game, the
first being the Hornets' preseason
loss to Freeport, the biggest problem
for Cottondale was special teams.

The Hornets surrendered a safety
on a punt snap that sailed over Jacob
Herring's head and nearly allowed
Sneads' Mark Lawson to return a
kickoff for a potentially-tying touch-
down in the final seconds of the
game. -
Cottondale gave up a kickoff
return for a touchdown against
Freeport and the Hornets' punt game
has struggled so fan
"All we can do is practice on it and
hope we get better at it," Melvin said
of his special teams.
The Hornets coach also said that

"his offensive line needed to do a bet-
ter job opening up lanes in the run-
ning game, though the passing game.

decisions," Melvin said of his quar-

some balls that they shouldn't,
but they also made some out-
standing plays. I think we've
got some kids who can make
some plays for us, but it's just a
matter of week-to-week right
now. We just have to stay
focused and want to improve."
The Hornets will travel to
Wewahitchka next week before
opening District 1-1B play the
following Friday against
FAMU in Tallahassee.
Melvin said he wanted his
team to face a challenging non-
district schedule to toughen up

for the district season.
"The reason our schedule is
set up like this, where we play
teams like Sneads, Liberty
County and Wewa is to get
ready for FAMU week," the
coach said. "We'll definitely
have to have our 'A' game on
when we play them. They won
the state championship two
years ago and made it to the
finals last year and they brought
in a lot of good players this
year, so we just have to try to
execute when we get there."
Tonight's kickoff is 7 p.m.

the same offense that MHS
does and they were very suc-
S"If we have the same tech-
nique problems, they're going
to gain a lot of yards.
Marianna's a lot better than
Wertenberger said the film
of Marianna's win over
Blountstown convinced him
that the Bulldogs are even bet-
ter than last season.
"We know they're pretty
, good over there. They've got
some good kids and they play
hard for four quarters, which
is why they win ,a lot ball-
games," the coach said. "Their
offensive line is awesome.
They were blocking people's
tails off."
Wertenberger said the key to
the Bulldogs' dominant rush-
ing attack was balance.
SRunning backs Tre Long
and Quan Boykin give an
added dimension to a
Bulldogs offense that already
featured one of the state's best
backs in Bradley Battles.
"If you give Battles a
crease, he'll take it the.dis-
tance," Wertenberger said,
"but Long and Boykin are
doing a good job too, so now
they've got three of them who
can run."
Armstrong agreed.
"We definitely feel like we
have more kids we can give
the ball to," the coach said.
"As coaches, we have to make
sure we do a good job of tak-
ing advantage of that."
The Bulldogs coach said his
team will face a similar dilem-
ma trying to defend the
Graceville option attack, with.
a deep and talented Tigers
backfield that includes speedy
tailbacks Antrell Wright and
Treyshaun White, bruising
fullback Leron Hoover and
dual-threat quarterback Justin
"They're definitely harder
to defend this year because
they've got more weapons"
Armstrong said. "Their quar-
terback is a lot further along
than he was last year and
they're running a whole lot
more option and (Miles) pitch-
es it well. You've got three to
defend on the option, but they
also have the play action pass.
"That's got us worried too
because we're on the second-
ary to support the run, but then
they've got people running
open on play action, so we
have to, be disciplined and
keep our heads up at all
Arrpstrong said he was very
impressed by Graceville's per-
formance against Liberty
County, particularly by the
play of the Tigers offensive
"They looked great in all
phases of game," the coach
said. "They shut Liberty
County down on defense and
offensively they just whipped,
"They ran up and down on
them. Their offensive line did
a great job. They just knocked
them off the ball and pushed
them back the whole game.
Liberty County knew what
was coming, but Graceville
just lined up and knocked
the4 off the ball."
Wertenberger said that more

important than 'Xs and Os' for
his team was consistency.
"Last year,. we came out of
the locker room and fell
apart," the coach said.
"Marianna kept playing con-
sistent football for four quar-
ters. Nothing changed in the
second half of that game as far
as game-planning, but we just
stopped doing what we were
supposed to do.
We didn't stay consistent
and they did and they ended
up putting it on us pretty
