over his family.
"He's a man who is moving up the
ladder in his job. He thinks he can
move up more but has to work quite
a bit, so he starts having commitment
problems with his family ... He even-

have hallucinations; but his halluci-

meets the eye," explained Hall.
HM11 will hold auditions for two of
the lead roles and some supporting
roles on Monday and 'lliesday, June
30 and July 1, from 6 to 8 p.m., at

The Panhandle Panthers 12U
squad begins its quest for a state
championship Saturday in St.
The Panthers will take on the win-
ner of Fossil Park and Crestview at
noon local time.
If they win that game, the Panthers
won't play again until Monday with a
c po h1 ga th Tuesday'
A loss would. send the, Panthers
into the loser's bracket and another 2
p.m. ganie Saturday.
The Panthers' 12U team finished
second in the state last year before
going on to win the Dizzy Dean
World Series.
-However, Panthers coach Allen
Childs compared this year's group
favorably with last year's team.
"Pitching-wise, I believe we're
better, as far as depth, than last year,"
the coach said. "The pitching staff is
really deep. We've got six really

good arms.
"We've got, as 12-year-old
kids, a very talented group. It's the
first team I've had that had 12 quali-
ty players and it doesn't hurt at any
time to go to the bench."
But Childs said that last year's
team possessed something that this
year's sqilad is still searching for.
"The leadership is one thing been
looking for out of this group," he
said. "The 12-year-old group last
vthear d so reTa lenaden on ahm
they would step up and make some-
thing big happen.
"I hope we have some kids this
year that step up and rise to the chal-
lenge. Leadership in 12-year-olds is a
hard thing to teach."
The Panthers advanced to the state
tournament by beating Lynn Haven
in the district championship game.
Childs said he expected the level
of competition to be even tougher in
St. Petersburg.
"Any time you're in South Florida,
the competitive level of baseball is

The Panhandle Panthers 12U baseball team poses with its trophies from winning the district title in Lynn Haven.

much higher," the coach said. "TI1eir
kids play pretty much year-round.
"The main thing we've been trying
to do with this Panhandle program is
to play as much ball as possible to get
the kids the most experience. These
kids (in South Florida) just play so
much ball, there's nothing you really
can fool them with because they see
it day in and day out."
However, the Panthers have estab-
lished themselves as a force recently,

with the 12U and 13U team both
winning the World Series last year.
It's, a standard that these 12U
Panthers are trying to live up to. *
"These kids here have a lot to look
up to and some big shoes to fill to get
back to where those kids were last
year," Childs said. "The biggest thing
for this panhandle group is that each
team pushes the others.
"None of them wants to be the first
to lose. 'Wherever we go' has always

been these kids' motto.''
This year's 12U group finished
fourth in the state last year as 11-
year-olds, so motivation shouldn't be
an issue.
"They were really disappointed,"
Childs said. "They want to accom-
plish what the other teams did.
"We've been playing really well
for .the last month-and-a-half. If we
stay on track, I expect to bring anoth-
er state championship back."
