As we prepare for the implementation of the UF Online the Provost's Office is planning a major High The purpose of this initiative is to make the university community aware of the significance and importance of this development. Our goal is to have UF excel at the national level in both online and traditional classroom education. The 20 13 program includes a series of bi weekly luncheons with faculty, and a two day national forum on December 3 4 as a prelude to launching UF Online in 2014. Online Learning and the Future of Higher Educ ation Conference December 3 4, 2013 University Auditorium The Center for Instructional Technology & Training (CITT) has several tools to support teaching and learning. Below are some that may be of interest. Types of Tools Assessment Evaluating students as they move through course material is critical. Assessment tools can provide help beyond quizzes and exams. Best Practice in Course Development Review teaching strategies that have been found to save time and/or improve learning outcomes. Communication and Collaboration Effective communication is critical in the classroom and online. These tools can help keep students connected to faculty and their peers. Material Delivery & Presentation Quality course materials help students to access essential information. Faculty can choose the tool that best fits the course material and desired presentation style. Open Source Open source communities cooperate to develop software and make it available to users without license fees. These tools are available for use with no cost to the user. Social Media & Software The creation of a learning community is important for online and hybrid courses. Social media tools can assist with creating and sharing user generated content. Teaching These teaching strategies can help to foster student engagement both online and in the classroom.
