Plan for Amazon Dams Working Group Meeting May 15, 2013 Evaluation : briefly review what we have done, what we have learned and what can be improved for next working group sessions in the future. Update and discuss next steps for the group: projects, papers, visiting scholars and communication. Develop of the year.

Update and discuss next steps for the group: projects, papers, visiting scholars and communication Papers: 1. Stephanie et al: state of art of integrative research on dams, what Nature, unpublished, 2012). Plan: review, expand and transform into a Perspective Paper. 2. Simone, Fernando et al: Analysis of escalating environmental impacts of hydropower production and consumption integrating functioning of electric sector, policies, existing scientific research and climate change (letter to Science, unpublished, 2012). Plan: review, expand and transform into a Policy Paper. 3. Others (Fernando, other people, ideas to propose/lead)?


Projects 1) SEEDS: in collaboration with UFT and UNIR. Shared Coordination with Dr. Elineide Marques. Connect with other collaborators at UFT. Share vision, expectations and establish protocols to work with UFT. Review and Invite collaborators: Fernando (functioning of electric sector), Chris McCarty, Mason and Gaby (social networks, social impacts), Ted Melis (GCRMC). Release calls for 2 students graduate research assistants. June 2013, analyze on July, release of results by end of July. Initial meeting: August/2013. 2) NSF RCN/CNH: PI: Dr. Bette Loiselle (TCD Director). Tasks: Synthesize our previous work into NSF format. Start working on proposal. Invite participants, collect documents, contact Program Officer. Preparation of initial draft June/2013. Meeting: July 8, 2013, 2 pm. Deadline: November, 2013. 3) International Cooperation CAPES submitted, under review. 4) Cultural Resilience and DFDR in Nova Mutum Parana Berenice Simao (leader). Finalize interviews, possible visit to UF to analyze data, paper under development.

Define best time and draft agenda for meeting. Professional visit to UF (Santander/UNIR grant): potential period: October December, 2013. Define working plan and possible visit to GCRMC. Develop pos t doctoral plan (for 2014). 2) Dr. Melissa Curi (post doc at UNB) application for post doctoral program for UF, advisors Marianne and Simone. Indigenous peoples, environmental justice and dams. 3) Berenice Simao (UNIR/Porto Velho Municipal government). Possible visit to UF. Application for Doctoral program at UNIR. 4) Dr. Elineide Marques possible visit to GCRMC and UF in the Fall/13.
