This flow chart may be informed by our textbook’s suggested “Diagram of the Research Process” (George 2008 p.19) and ways of getting started with a topic: Ask, Read, Browse, Look, Link (p.31-42). Or you may use the UF library’s assignment calculator http://www.uflib.ufl.edu/librarywest/ to help you determine a possible schedule to keep on track with your assignment. This diagram will be most useful if you select a real research assignment that you need to complete this semester.

Select a research assignment with a clear deadline. This can be from any of your courses this semester. (The Annotated Bib+ for th is class is a poss ibility if you have an assigned paper or project). 2. Take a look at the assignment calculator http://www.uflib.ufl.edu/librarywest/ and type in a start/ due date. Think about the var i ous suggestions outlined by the calculator. 3. Take a look at our textbook s suggested flow of the research process (p.19) Where does the Assignment Cal cu lator align? What steps are missing? Are there other assignment specific considerations? 4. Synthesize the 3 resources ( your assignment, o ur readings, and the assignment calculator schedule) to develop a research plan for the semester.
