THE LEADERS OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY CALL THE NATION OF GUYANA TO REPENT, FAST, AND PRAY FOR. GOD'S INTERVENTION TO STOP THE LEGALISATION OF HOMOSEXUALITY AND ALL OTHER FORMS OF SEXUAL IMMORALITY WHICH WOULD CONTRIBUTE TO THE DESTRUCTION OF OUR SOCIETY AND INVITE GOD'S JUDGMENT ON GUYANA. The duration of the fast will be from Monday January 22 to Wednesday January 24, 2001. JONAH 3:5 & 10 "... SO THE PEOPLE OF NINEVEH BELIEVED GOD AND PROCLAIMED A FAST, AND PUT ON SACKCLOTH, FROM THE GREATEST OF THEM TO THE LEAST OF THEM ... AND GOD SAW THEIR WORKS, THAT THEY HAD CEASED FROM THEIR EVIL WAYS, AND HE ABANDONED HIS PLAN TO DESTROY THEM." R regarding Constitution (Amendment) (No. 5) R Bill 2000 passed by the Parliament of Guyana n Thursday, January 4, 2001: The leaders and members of the Christian Community adamantly oppose the recent amendment to the Constitution of Guyana whereby discrimination is prohibited on the basis of sexual orientation and marital status. (See section 15 of the 2000 Bill). As Christians, we believe, in accordance with the teaching of the Holy Bible*, that the act of sexual intercourse is only approved by God and beneficia) to the individual, the family and the society when practiced between a man and woman who are married to each other, and that sexual intercourse in every other circumstance fornication, adultery, homosexuality, lesbianism, paedophilia, bestiality is abhorrent to God and counter-productive to the welfare of the individual, the family and the society. We are convinced that any law which promotes and protects the practice of sexual intercourse outside of marriage will result in a further decay of the moral fabric of our society with all of its attendant economic and social problems and costs. In particular, the entire Christian Community joins with all God-fearing Guyanese in opposing the inclusion within the Constitution of Guyana, the highest legal instrument of our land, of official endorsement and national approval of sexual perversion under the guise of removal of discrimination based on "sexual orientation". We recognize that to protect homosexuality/lesbianism in the highest law of the land would serve to further erode family values and undermine the social and moral fabric of our society while giving impetus to the introduction of values and behaviours that are alien to the values, culture and traditions of our peoples. In keeping with our duty to work for the protection and prosperity of this nation, we are bound to always teach, by word and act, against conduct and laws which are in contravention of the laws of God. However, if the aforementioned amendment to the Constitution is permitted to stand, teaching and acting against corrupt and ungodly sexual practices will be rendered an act of discrimination and thus illegal. Furthermore, the Christian Community is firmly .opposed to the inclusion in the Bill of the clause which states that "no person's religion or religious beliefshall be vilified" (Section 8). This clause, if retained, will effectively render it illegal to speak against practices andi beliefs which are contrary to the teachings of the Bible. Clearly, the noted portions of Section 8 and Section 15, besides facilitating destruction and chaos in our society, amount to an interference of the right to free speech and the right not to be discriminated against on the basis ofreligion. In the light of all the above, we call for the immediate removal of the above-mentioned phrases and clauses from our Constitution. Scriptures that oppose homosexuality: Leviticus 18:22 Thou shall not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is an abomination. Leviticus 20:13 IfUaman also lie with mankind, as he lith with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination, they shall surely be put to death, their blood shall be upon them. Romans 1: 26-27 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature. And likewise also themen, leavingthe natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one towards another, men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence oftheir error which was met |
