- This session features a number of kalenda and chantey performances. Kalenda is a Trinidadian dance modeled on the movements of a martial art. It is accompanied by drumming and song, and employs an alternating chorus-leader singing style. The chantey performances are sung a cappella. They employ an alternating chorus-leader singing style and are characterized by parallel harmonization, and (with some exceptions) a heterophonic texture.
