Angela, Oliver and Morgan Complete

One-Year Assignment in Germany
Returning to Aruba recently "Rocky" Angela and Ken

Ferdinand R. Lo Fo Sang Advances

To Area Supervisor in Mechanical

Effective August 1, Ferdi-
nand R. Lo Fo Sang was pro-
moted to area supervisor in
the Electrical Maintenance
Section of the Mechanical-
Maintenance & Construction
Division. With this promotion
he became a management
Ferdinand started with the
company as an apprentice in
the Lago Vocational School in
1943. After graduating in
1946, he was assigned to the
Mechanical-Electrical Division
as an electrician helper "B".
After six months, he joined the
local army, returning to the
Electrical Division a year la-
ter where he advanced to elec-
trician helper "A" in 1948.
Between 1949 and 1952 he
worked in the various electri-
cian categories, advancing to
electrician "A" and tester.
Since then he acted on several
occasions as sub foreman and
assistant foreman, and over
the recent years as area su-
pervisor, in various sections of
the Mechanical Department.
He also assisted Dressler en-
gineers in the installation of
computer hook-up to the 2300

voltage starters in the Oil
Movements Department.
Prior to his August 1 pro-
motion, Ferdinand had been an
equipment tradesman "A", ac-

1935. He transferred to La-
go in 1942 starting as a
laborer in the Commissary.

He later worked in the
Marine Department's Dry-
dock as a laborer. In 1943,
he entered compulsory mil-
itary service. Upon return-
ing in 1945 he rejoined the
Lake Tankers Fleet where
he worked as a fireman.
In 1954 he transferred to
the Lago Police Depart-
ment as a patrolman trai-
nee. Here he advanced to
patrolman I in 1958. A pro-
motion in 1961 made him a
senior patrolman.
Mr. Boezem progressed
to corporal in 1966. At pre-
sent, a police corporal in
the Industrial Services De-
partment, he commemorat-
ed his service anniversary
August 6.

fences south of the NFAR. They are expansion loops in the
steamlines going to the HDS tanks. They keep the product
at a specific temperature and prevent solidification.

luncheon at the Esso Club.

A. C. Eman, Section Head-
Communications. During this
occasion a certificate of ap-
preciation of the U.S. C.A.P.
was presented to Mr. John-
ston by Mr. Root.
This was the first time that
members of the U.S. C.A.P.
visited Aruba. While there is
no such organization in Aruba
at present, the Youth Air Bri-
gade in Curagao has over 60
members. Plans are now in the
making to set up a similar or-
ganization in Aruba next year.
Similar groups are in exis-
tence in over 30 countries
throughout the world. Every
year there is an exchange of
cadets among these countries.
The U.S. C.A.P. was organ-
ized December 1, 1941. This
organization is now headed by
National Commander, General

of its operations and in courier
service. They also help in civil
defense work and in search
and rescue activities in natural
and non-natural disasters.

Traffic Problems

In the Early Days
Drivers have been exper-
iencing traffic hangups for
years. And chances are they
will go right on experiencing
them in the future. There's
really not much you can do
about it.
Since the early days, rules
have been set to cope with
traffic problems. They did it
their own way.
One Way
If you have ever found
yourself going the wrong way
on a one-way street, maybe
you have wondered who
thought up such an idea.
Well, you can blame the an-
cient Romans for one-way
streets, too. The narrow, win-
ding streets of Rome forced
passing charioteers to core so
close that whitewalled wheels
were scuffed. So Roman "traf-
fic engineers" finally declared
that "light carriages, delivery
wagons and hand chairs must
proceed in one direction only."
Concealed danger
Many a motorist has been
booby-trapped by a stop sign
hidden by brush or a cross-
road obscured by a cornfield.
He would have had no trouble
back in thirteenth century
England. In 1285 a law was
passed providing that "All
trees and shrubs must be cut
down for a distance of 2,000
feet on either side of the
roads between market towns
to prevent the concealment of
robbers in them."
Nowadays the real hazard
is when you can't see an on-
coming vehicle.
So What Else Is Old?
As you buckle your safety
belt you might think to your-

4, predicted traffic conditions
that many of us today would
say tells it like it is.
The prophet says: "The
chariots shall rage in the
streets: they shall jostle one
another in the broad ways:
they shall seem like torches;
they shall run like lightning."
When you and your "char-
iot" get jammed up in traffic
and you're beset by frustration
and impatience and anger,
just remember that there's
nothing especially new about
your predicament.

I Mechanical Shops Renoba

Since last year, the Mech-
anical Shops have undergone
considerable facelifting. A
number of machines in the
Machine Shop have been re-
arranged. The new setup of
machines in diagonal position
instead of blockwise formation
provides a safer and more
space-saving arrangement.
The whole interior of the
building, including machines
and some tools, now display
a new soft green coat. Also
certain sections of the floor
have been painted a light
green at the suggestion of the
tradesmen. This gives the shop
a fresher look and contributes
to better housekeeping.
In addition to the new lay-
out of the Machine Shop, some
$28,000 worth of tools have
been ordered to keep up with
the latest developments and
techniques in modern shops.
These tools include the new
granite surface plate for pre-
cision measuring and some
pneumatic and hydraulic tools,
used for rapid disassembly.
Some work procedures have
also been improved. Two new
square tanks have been in-
stalled for washing and treat-
ing pumps prior to repair.
Work benches have been pro-
vided at a more convenient
height for workmen to work
in disassembling and assem-
bling pumps and other equip-
ment. New racks have been
installed to hold incoming
equipment that need repair.
Now a dry electric heater re-
places an oil bath heater for

heating bearings from 1000 F.
to about 5500 F. All these im-
provements are intended to
improve safety and efficiency
in handling jobs on pumps or
in fabricating parts for refin-
ery equipment.
Charged with the shop mo-
dernization program, which
started last year, is Charles
Miannay of Mechanical-M&C.
He was assisted by Leo Chad-
wick, formerly a consulting
engineer with Aerospace Tech-
nology Corporation of Bloom-
field, N.J. Leo, a mechanical
engineer, is here as an inde-
pendent consultant on further
shop improvements.
He is a retiree of ITT with
25 years of service. His last
assignment with ITT was
supervisor of field engineers
engaged in Systems Equip-
ment and Engineering for the
465-L Strategic Air Command
Centers (SACC), a world-wide
communications center for the
U.S. Air Force.
