Nine employees won CYI
awards in June. One of the
award recipients, Ferdinand
R. Lo-Fo-Sang, an electrician
in Mechanical-M&C, won three
awards of FIs. 40 each for
three different ideas.
Ferdinand submitted two
safety ideas and one idea
with intangible savings. His
.first idea called for a guard
on No. 8 Generators brush
rigging at Powerhouse No. 1
to cover moving machinery.
He also suggested to turn
the valve west of AR4 Gas
Analyzer at the Sulphur
Plant to 45 degrees south to
prevent its protruding stem
from causing a tripping haz-
ard. Ferdinand's third idea
was to install a fine wire
screen over the main bearing
cover peep hole of No. 6 High
Pressure Air Compressor to
keep foreign bodies out.
Five other safety ideas
earned F1s. 40 each.

install a light overhead of the
pitch fuel oil control valve
and pressure gauges at No. 2

At Lago Colegio Arubano Students

See School Books Come to Life


Recently a group of Cole-
gio Arubano students got a
first hand view of applied
science at Lago. What their
books taught them, they were
able to witness in demonstra-
tions given at Lago's labora-
tories.

The students stopped at se-
veral units, such as the Cat
Cracker, NFAR, Acid Plant,
Combination Units and the
Laboratories. They received


an explanation of Lago's
manifold operations during
their tour.
They were also guests at a
lunch at the Esso Club and
saw a. slide presentation on
refinery operations in the Es-
so Club theater.
The group of about 24 stu-
dents recently finished their
exams in math and science
and were particularly inter-
ested in chemistry and phy-
sics.

Construction activity at Humble Oil & Refining Company's
new Benicia (California) Refinery is nearing its peak. The
refinery, with a daily capacity of about 70,000 barrels of
petroleum products, is scheduled to start operations early
next year. It's Humble's first refinery on the West Coast.

Engraving Plates Used

For Calendars Help

Give Aruba Publicity
Several packages weighing
a total of 170 lbs. were rec-
ently delivered to the Aruba
Tourist Bureau, foui travel
agencies and four airline
agencies. Their contents in-
cluded 33 sets of 4-color en-
graving plates which were
used for Lago calendars for
1965, 1966 and 1967.
The copper plates were do-
nated by Lago to assist these
agencies in their efforts to
publicize the beauty of Aruba
abroad and thereby attract
more visitors to the island.
In all, the plates represent-
ed some thirty-three scenic
spots of Aruba.

Most likely Aruba's largest tank truck, this 122-meter long truck can transport 6000 gal-
lons of motor gasoline to fill the tanks of three Esso service stations in one haul. The
truck, owned by Esso agent Maduro & Sons, costs over FIs. 50,000 and weighs 37 tons
when loaded.
