Older Age Group
Will Receive

Salk Polio Vaccine

Lago Medical Department an-
nounced plans last week to inocu-
late against poliomyelitis all those
children of employees who by rea-
son of age were not eligible to re-
ceive the Salk vaccine administer-
ed last September.

Affected will be children from age
13 through 18.

The first shot of the series of three
will be given over a three-week pe-
riod beginning Monday, Jan 6 and
ending Jan. 24. These dates do not
include Saturdays and Sundays.

Scene of the inoculation will be the
family clinics in Lago Hospital, only
between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Following the first inoculation
each child will receive a card indicat-
|ing the date of his second and third
shots. Medical authorities stress that
all three shots are necessary for im-
munity against polio.

Parents of children in this 13-to-18
age group are urged to get them to
the clinics for the inoculations.

At the same time inoculations will
be administered to children from
six months to 12 years who did not
receive the vaccine during the Lago
Sport Park vaccination program a
few months ago. The younger age
group will be accommodated at the
same time and place as the 13-to-18
group.

Approximately 91% of the eligi-
ble children received their first two
Salk shots in the first stage of the
program.

| Rumors counted |

Current rumors on the size of lay-
offs planned by Lago are without
foundation.

The company has been reducing
forces steadily since 1949 and chang-
ing operations require that the pro-
gram be continued.

Net separations of all types on the
payroll in 1957 including layoffs were
approximately 350, which was close
to the pattern of recent years.

Present indications are that 1958

will not exceed this figure for all
forms of termination.
This information was discussed

with the Lago Employee Council in
meetings held Dec. 30 and 31 in con-
nection with seniority rating pro-
cedures that are being developed.

Older Age Group
Will Receive

Salk Polio Vaccine

Lago Medical Department an-
nounced plans last week to inocu-
late against poliomyelitis all those
children of employees who by rea-
son of age were not eligible to re-
ceive the Salk vaccine administer-
ed last September.

Affected will be children from age
13 through 18.

The first shot of the series of three
will be given over a three-week pe-
riod beginning Monday, Jan 6 and
ending Jan. 24. These dates do not
include Saturdays and Sundays.

Scene of the inoculation will be the
family clinics in Lago Hospital, only
between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Following the first inoculation
each child will receive a card indicat-
|ing the date of his second and third
shots. Medical authorities stress that
all three shots are necessary for im-
munity against polio.

Parents of children in this 13-to-18
age group are urged to get them to
the clinics for the inoculations.

At the same time inoculations will
be administered to children from
six months to 12 years who did not
receive the vaccine during the Lago
Sport Park vaccination program a
few months ago. The younger age
group will be accommodated at the
same time and place as the 13-to-18
group.

Approximately 91% of the eligi-
ble children received their first two
Salk shots in the first stage of the
program.

| Rumors counted |

Current rumors on the size of lay-
offs planned by Lago are without
foundation.

The company has been reducing
forces steadily since 1949 and chang-
ing operations require that the pro-
gram be continued.

Net separations of all types on the
payroll in 1957 including layoffs were
approximately 350, which was close
to the pattern of recent years.

Present indications are that 1958

will not exceed this figure for all
forms of termination.
This information was discussed

with the Lago Employee Council in
meetings held Dec. 30 and 31 in con-
nection with seniority rating pro-
cedures that are being developed.
