Allentown Boys, Parents Say
Merry Christmas by Phone

For the third year in a row, winners of the Allentown scholarships and
their parents exchanged news and Christmas greetings by overseas tele-
phone.

The call was placed Dec. 20 and the Aruba end of the conversation took
place in an office in the GOB. In Allentown the boys talked from the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Forgan, with whom they are living.

While the weather here was balmy, the boys reported that Allentown
was shivering in 18 degree temperature

EXPERT DRIBBLERS are few and far between. Basketball coaches
say the real test is whether a man can dribble and still watch the man

Basketball Coaches

Stay Clear of Dribbling

Dribbling is basketball’s necessary |
evil. That’s how many coaches feel,
anyway.

The coach knows that a short
dribble is often the quickest path to
the basket, or the best way to set
up an important play. He also knows
that too many boys, unfortunately,
want to imitate a player like Bob
Cousy, of the Boston Celtics,
without pausing to ask how many
other skilled players can approach
Cousy’s amazing teats.

We had an expert dribbler, whom
I'll call Johnny A., in our high
school. There was only one problem
about Johnny; he was too good tor
the rest of the team. The thing I
remember best was the
speech, during the first scrimmage.

"Some of you want to be dribb-
lers, I see,’ said the coach. "I’m
sorry, but I’m going to ask you to
stop trying. There is only one player

‘Advertises Island

The fair name of this island was |
carried all over the world by the
Aruba Philatelic Society's big |
Shristmas project, which turned
out to be more successful than any-
one dreamed. 1

The idea was to de
envelope with a Christmas motif
which would be postmarked on
Christmas Eve with the San Nico-
| laas post mark. Originally the club
ordered 2000 envelopes for the idea,
and thought that might be too many.

Then they advertised their offer
in various stamp journals. When the
storm of letters and requests
died down club officials saw
their requests
bringing to 2:
ers mailed

Stamp collectors in all the coun-
tries of Europe, every state in the
U. S., every province in Canada, Ar-
|gentina, Chile, Brazil and Venezuela |
| requested them. People in Melbourne, |
the Gilbert Island and the Papau Is-
lands also got them. Perhaps the
most romantic destination of all was
Pitcairn Island, place where the
mutineers from H. M. S. Bounty set
up a colony over a century ago.

In each envelope was a picture of ;
Aruba’s Palm Beach supplied by Er-
|nest Bartels of the Tourist Commis-
sion. The Society's Dec. 17 meeting |
| was devoted solely to stuffing, ad-
dressing and stamping the enve-
lopes. Members’ wives did the typ-
ing. Post office employees in San Ni-
colaas deserve much the credit for
the smooth job, first of all for get-
ting all 2575 envelopes out on Dec.
24, and mostly for the care they used
in cancelling the covers, and still not
marring the stamp.

Proceeds from the sale of the cov-
ers will go to buy stamps and al-
bums for hospitalized veterans and
for orphans.

Basketball Coaches

Stay Clear of Dribbling

Dribbling is basketball’s necessary |
evil. That’s how many coaches feel,
anyway.

The coach knows that a short
dribble is often the quickest path to
the basket, or the best way to set
up an important play. He also knows
that too many boys, unfortunately,
want to imitate a player like Bob
Cousy, of the Boston Celtics,
without pausing to ask how many
other skilled players can approach
Cousy’s amazing teats.

We had an expert dribbler, whom
I'll call Johnny A., in our high
school. There was only one problem
about Johnny; he was too good tor
the rest of the team. The thing I
remember best was the
speech, during the first scrimmage.

"Some of you want to be dribb-
lers, I see,’ said the coach. "I’m
sorry, but I’m going to ask you to
stop trying. There is only one player

‘Advertises Island

The fair name of this island was |
carried all over the world by the
Aruba Philatelic Society's big |
Shristmas project, which turned
out to be more successful than any-
one dreamed. 1

The idea was to de
envelope with a Christmas motif
which would be postmarked on
Christmas Eve with the San Nico-
| laas post mark. Originally the club
ordered 2000 envelopes for the idea,
and thought that might be too many.

Then they advertised their offer
in various stamp journals. When the
storm of letters and requests
died down club officials saw
their requests
bringing to 2:
ers mailed

Stamp collectors in all the coun-
tries of Europe, every state in the
U. S., every province in Canada, Ar-
|gentina, Chile, Brazil and Venezuela |
| requested them. People in Melbourne, |
the Gilbert Island and the Papau Is-
lands also got them. Perhaps the
most romantic destination of all was
Pitcairn Island, place where the
mutineers from H. M. S. Bounty set
up a colony over a century ago.

In each envelope was a picture of ;
Aruba’s Palm Beach supplied by Er-
|nest Bartels of the Tourist Commis-
sion. The Society's Dec. 17 meeting |
| was devoted solely to stuffing, ad-
dressing and stamping the enve-
lopes. Members’ wives did the typ-
ing. Post office employees in San Ni-
colaas deserve much the credit for
the smooth job, first of all for get-
ting all 2575 envelopes out on Dec.
24, and mostly for the care they used
in cancelling the covers, and still not
marring the stamp.

Proceeds from the sale of the cov-
ers will go to buy stamps and al-
bums for hospitalized veterans and
for orphans.
