Holland. The white marble figure is Dominicus College before entering | the cost of their education had been

|high and its worth would be deci-
ded by "what you do with it in the
years to come.”

The company estimated it spent
Fls. 1,000,000 a year to operate the
school during the four years the
|graduates were students, Mr. Min-
|gus pointed out. That covers every-
thing from the pencil you used last
week to the softball you hit four
years ago,” he said.

Their education had been a con-
siderable cost to the graduates and
their families, Mr. Mingus stated.
"It has cost four years of your life,
|important years as you developed
from a boy of 14 to a young man of
18. It has cost your parents money
to support you through these four
years of schooling,” he stated.

"Altogether, education sounds like
a pretty costly affair - and it is.
|You surely have learned, though,

E congregacion |mands indicates that they will be |that what has cost also has value.

And in this case the value is four-
fold: to you, to your family, to Lago
jand to Aruba.”

Fuller Life’

The graduates and their families,
Mr. Mingus explained, would pro-
fit through higher earnings and the
"fuller life’ they provide; Lago
would profit by having employees
basically trained for more respon-
|sible positions; Aruba would profit
|through citizens primarily equipped
to be responsible citizens.

These benefits, however, would
only be realized if the graduates
made use of their education, Mr.
{Mingus cautioned. The success of
education depends, he said, "not on
the past four years, but on what
|you do with it in the years to come.
And I don’t mean 10 or 20 years
from now but right now - starting
|next week.”

The graduates’ diplomas, he
|stated, were not a "free ticket’ to
success. "Valuable as they are, they

are simply a sign that you have
made a good beginning on the road
of life - that you have a good foun-
dation on which to build.

"Some of you - and I hope not
many - will think with your last

e costo di nan educacion tabata hal-

"di loke boso lo haci cu ne den an-

Compania a calcula cu durante e
cuatro anjanan cu e graduadonan

school Sr. Mingus a munstra. "Esey
ta cubri tur cos, for di e potlood cu
boso a usa siman pasa te na e soft-

Nan educacion tabata un gasto
considerable pa e graduadonan y

"El a costa cuatro anja di boso bida,

desaroya for di un mucha di 14 anja

"Tur hunto, educacion ta zona ma-

E beneficionan aki, sinembargo,
lo worde realiz4 solamente si e gra-

educacion ta depende, el a bisa, "no

Prior to their departure from Al-|

home.

Some 50 friends gathered to say

the fifth pair sent by Lago to Al-

expense-paid scholarships. At the
party, held in an Allentown hotel,

During the year the boys were |

It marked the completion of the first semester of night work open to
all residents of Aruba.

The award ceremonies were conducted in the Sociedad Bolivariana.
Certificates were awarded in courses ranging from a review of elemen-
tary school arithmetic to advanced mathematics, drafting, mechanics
and physics. The certificates were awarded by G. Amelink, head of
the Aruba Technical School.

The courses, designed to help a person learn a trade or improve his
skill in his present job, were approved under Lago’s Educational Re-
fund Plan. They were taught by ATS instructors and two Lago en-
gineers.

Most classes met two evenings every week for two 45-minute periods
cach evening. Francisco Tromp of Lago’s Safety Division was the only
student to complete four courses. Others completed one, two or three.

Classes are scheduled to resume in September with registration set
for Sept. 12 to 14. Students who compile enough credits in prescribed
courses will be eligible for regular ATS diplomas.

ded by "what you do with it in the
years to come.”

The company estimated it spent
Fls. 1,000,000 a year to operate the
school during the four years the
|graduates were students, Mr. Min-
|gus pointed out. That covers every-
thing from the pencil you used last
week to the softball you hit four
years ago,” he said.

Their education had been a con-
siderable cost to the graduates and
their families, Mr. Mingus stated.
"It has cost four years of your life,
|important years as you developed
from a boy of 14 to a young man of
18. It has cost your parents money
to support you through these four
years of schooling,” he stated.

"Altogether, education sounds like
a pretty costly affair - and it is.

And in this case the value is four-
fold: to you, to your family, to Lago

Fuller Life’

The graduates and their families,
Mr. Mingus explained, would pro-
fit through higher earnings and the
"fuller life’ they provide; Lago
would profit by having employees
basically trained for more respon-
|sible positions; Aruba would profit
|through citizens primarily equipped
to be responsible citizens.

These benefits, however, would
only be realized if the graduates
made use of their education, Mr.
{Mingus cautioned. The success of
education depends, he said, "not on
the past four years, but on what
|you do with it in the years to come.
And I don’t mean 10 or 20 years
from now but right now - starting
|next week.”

The graduates’ diplomas, he
|stated, were not a "free ticket’ to
success. "Valuable as they are, they

are simply a sign that you have

It marked the completion of the first semester of night work open to
all residents of Aruba.

The award ceremonies were conducted in the Sociedad Bolivariana.
Certificates were awarded in courses ranging from a review of elemen-
tary school arithmetic to advanced mathematics, drafting, mechanics
and physics. The certificates were awarded by G. Amelink, head of
the Aruba Technical School.

The courses, designed to help a person learn a trade or improve his
skill in his present job, were approved under Lago’s Educational Re-
