Chantc Marie was born on September 7, 1991 to the late Lurleen Marie
Smith and Albert Newsome. Her maternal grandparents were Viola E.
Smith and the late Dr. Wilburn A. Smith, Jr. and her paternal grandpar-
ents were Ada Newsome and Alfred Hill.
A child is a blessing and a gift from God. And so it was with a great deal
of love and appreciation that our precious gift, Chante Marie Smith-
Newsome, was welcomed into our lives on the day of her birth. Lurleen
brought Chante home to St. Thomas in 1992 and was a loving and
devoted mother to her daughter until she preceded her in death by only
four months on September 7, 1996, which was Chants's fifth birthday.
Upon her mother's passing, Chante continued to be lovingly cared for by
her grandmother, Mrs. Viola E. Smith, her father Albert Newsome and
her cousin, Renec George, Coleen Smith and Marva Applewhite.
Chant6 was a lively, loving
child who brought joy and hap-
piness to those with whom she
came in contact. She was a spe-
cial blessing to her parents and
her maternal grandmother,
Mrs. Viola E. Smith. Once it
was known that Chant6 was
terminally ill, her parents dili-
gently cared for her and sur-
rounded her with uncondi- .
tional love and support. b
Despite only living five
short years, Chante displayed
a great deal of charm and a
fighting spirit much like her mother. Before being diagnosed with this
dreaded disease, Chante was much like any other child. She bubbled with
laughter, played among her toys with her parents and other family mem-
bers and participated in a variety of activities only a toddler can enjoy. She
always displayed her loving personality as she constantly wore a smile on
her face and always greeted you with open arms.
Chant6's earthly life ended peacefully on January 11, 1997, her special
mission here having been fulfilled. God, in his infinite wisdom, deter-
mined that she should be free of pain and suffering, called her home to
rest. In lasting gratitude, we thank God for the joy and happiness Chant6
brought to our lives and for those persons whose deeds and prayers
contributed to Chante's brief sojourn here on Earth. In Christian hope, we
now commend our beloved angel, Chants, back to our Lord, and prayer-
fully beseech Him to keep her forever until we all meet again, in the joy
and peace of His eternal love.

God sent an Angel, to be with us for a time,
We wanted it to be forever, but he said that she is mine.
She was here to do a task, to bring happiness and cheers,
the time went so fast, it lasted only five years.
We have so many memories, of all the times we spent together.
We no longer have to worry, because now you will be much better.
We will miss you very much, you filled our lives with love,
You have now taken your place, in God's kingdom above.
Baby I love you very much and I will miss you
But I know we will be together again.
I Love You
