TWO VISITORS to the Kennedy exhibition wonder at the
rich colour of the artist's Bahian tapestry.

Bahia Tapestry

IN the rush of much adver-
tised international and one-
man exhibitions, the Patrick
Kennedy showing of tapes-
tries now on at the Guyana
Society Library. Company
Path, has been largely over-
looked. And not because it
lacks excellence.
It was put up quite hurried-
ly. the artist arriving Wtfh
his works on the opening day
of the festival with filttle :fan-
fare and little advance notice.
This Js really a pity for Ken-
:nedy's work Is deserving of
maxnTum popunilarity, his
Screat'is strikingly Brazilian
in coloring and his motifs
| aintessentially Bahian.
Kennedy comes from Bahia
and from there his way with
tapestris has spread through-
out Brazil and into most other
South American countries.
At his Bahia studio, he
paints his designs bn strident
hues, making no use of
nuance, all the shades full.
blooded and formidable. and
these aee then worked on by
his tapestry makers who pro-

duce fait reprodudtia s of
the m a' designs. never
losing one oda of the rich-
ness of s colour schemes in
the transference
Throughout his work there
is an opulence which has to
be seen to be believed, a rich-
ness tha never lat and which
reflects the lush Bahian land-
