Montserrat
dancers at
Merriman Mall
THE lick-a-ting dip ting of
a masquerade band disturbed
the quiet afternoon around
Merriman's Mall yesterday
and soon rings of interested
persons formed one around
the other about the skating
rink there and watched as
the dancers went through
their paces. The rhythms
were familiar but the cos-
tumes did seem strange.
For the dancers were
from Montserrat, visitors to
Carifesta who decided to
take their thing to the people
on the street.
Masqueraders in the true
sense of the word, they
wore rmsks and clown cos-
tumes with swathes of cloth
draped ankle length from
their shoulders and danced
to the very Afro-influenced
drums with which their coun-
terparts Bo their Guyanese
sALI.
