FWPL Information Roots Alive A Success school project was a big success. Participants, up to 50 children, took advantage of the opportunity to use art as a medium to learn about their roots and culture. It was funded by the Virgin Islands Council On The Arts, under the auspices of the FRIENDS of the FWPL It was directed by Jacqueline Ashe with assistance from Maria Stiles. The FRIENDS did not receive the full amount of the grant request, thus the plan to include the Athalie Petersen Public Library in the project was not successful. During the closing program the participants showcased there accomplishments. The VICA has indicated that it was very pleased and that it was the NLW Has Come and Gone NLW was again a lot of fun. Some of the activities: the Roots Alive project, Youth With A Mission Puppets, Story Telling by St.Croix Reading Council. All for the many, many children from St. Croix Schools who visited the library. It was coordinated by L.Mercado. In addition there was the 1998 Black History Month Essay Contest, coordinated by A.Espinosa and B.Richards; The Run To Your Library; and other activities. The tee shirts are a big hit also, they were made possible by donations from Senator Richards and staff. The FRIENDS funded the colorful poster, and other library like prizes for the visiting children. READS K 3 Literacy Project Our Best Wishes to Angelo We say farewell to Angelo Espinosa as he takes on the challenges of heading up the Athalie Petersen Public Library in Frederiksted. We appreciated the time and effort he put into FWPL. We hate to see him go, but he is nearby and we will still be working together. Summer Is Here As we move into the hurricane season, all hopes are that there will be no activity this season and that we can get many of the physical plant projects as possible completed before the beginning of the next school year. As of today the public restroom toilets have been repaired. It is understood that funds have been identified to replace the elevator. Nothing on the Xerox machines, the lobby doors and the lobby hurricane shutters. Estimates are being sought on Staff to Be Evaluated Individual performance reports will be scheduled for each staff member in the upcoming days. You will be notified in advance of the time for your appointment to interview.
