The slides were taken on collecting trips sponsored by the William L. Bryant Foundation, where books, music and art indigenous to the regions were gathered. The are organized by geographical location.
General Note:
Home to the legendary story of "the White Witch of Rose Hall." The Rose Hall great house in Saint James, Jamaica is said to be haunted by the ghost of Annie Palmer, its last mistress. Palmer is said to have learned voodoo while in Haiti. Legend also state that Palmer murdered her three husbands, delighted in terrorizing her slaves, and was brutally murdered by a former slave lover. This image was taken prior to the beginning of its reconstruction in the 1960s. Slide labeled Rose Hall.
