Funding:
Souvnans is a village on the outskirts of Gonaives. One of Haiti's largest annual Vodou festivals takes place in Souvnans, during which all of the lwa from the Rada nation are served. On the first day of the ceremonies, dancers accompanied by three drummers and lyrics sung in Haitian Kreyol perform for Legba. The following day, the sèvitès again danced for the lwa followed by ritual sacrifices of goats, a bull, and a chicken. After the sacrifices, they visit two ceremonial trees where they ask for forgiveness for any misdeeds before partaking in a cleansing bath. On the third and final day, the sèvitès, clad in all white, visit two trees where they hold ceremonial dances. In the afternoon, they will dress in bright colors and continue the ceremonial dancing under the tree.
