United Kingdom Amends Various Food Standards

New regulations amend the Cocoa and Chocolate Products Regulations 1976 by:

(a) revising the definition of Gianduja nut chocolate;

(b) amending the definition of "milk solids" to make clear that milk solids,
other than fat, must be in their natural proportions;

(c) amending the amount of ammonium phosphatides which can be added to certain
cocoa and chocolate products;

(d) removing two emulsifiers from the list of those permitted to be used in
chocolate products; and

(e) making minor amendments to the labelling requirements relating to ammonium
phosphatides and lecithins.









Amendments to the The Food Additives Regulations United Kingdom

New amendments amend the food additives regulations by:

(a) reducing the permitted levels of nitrites and nitrates in cured meats and
and cheese and prohibiting their addition to foods which are specially
prepared for babies and young children;

(b) bringing "flavor modifiers" and "bulking aids" under control by permitted
list and providing for the use of specified substances in foods other than
those which are specially prepared for babies and young children;

(c) making certain changes to the permitted list of additives and the foods
in which they may be used.

U.S. Food Shows Hong Kong and Singapore

U.S. Food Export Tradesmen are cordially invited to participate in a solo U.S. Food
Show at the Hong Kong Sheraton Hotel, May 12-14 and the Third International
Exhibition of Food and Drink at the Singapore World Trade Center, May 18-21. A total
of 24 booths are available for the Singapore event and at least thirty spaces for the
Hong Kong event. Exhibit fee is $500 for the Singapore show and $200 for the Hong
