Foreign Trade Developments.

Correspondence with Agricultural Counselors and Attaches. In
communicating witn FAS/USDA officials abroad messages should be addressed
to the Agricultural Counselor at the following posts: Ottawa, London,
The Hague, Tokyo, Paris, Bonn, Brussels (USEC), Moscow, Mexico, New
Delhi, Rome, Canberra, Caracas, Jakarta and Beijing. At all other posts
the proper title remains Agricultural Attache. At Agricultural Counselor
posts the No. 2 American carries the title of Agricultural Attache, but
unless there is a special reason, correspondence should be addressed to
the Counselor.

Import Liberalization by Korea on some Agricultural Commodities.
Thirty-three (33) commodities including four (4) agricultural items and
four (4) food products will be freed from import curbs in accordance with
the new terminal import notice covering one year, effective July 1, 1980
thru June 30, 1981. The agricultural and food items are as follows:
Perennial plants under the category of flowering plants, hope bulbs,
Mulberry bulbs, seeds of forage grass, lemon beverage base, apple
beverage base, bakery additives, and Emulsifier (chemical additive
preparations for foodstuffs). Previously, the Ministry of Commerce and
Industry came out with Terminal Trade Plans twice a year, June 1 and
December 1. Recently, the Korean Government rewrote the pertinent
regulations in such a way as to make public the Terminal Trade Plans once
a year on June 1. This was done to make it possible for both exporters
and importers to work out their respective trade business plans on a
stable basis.

The Esteio Livestock Show in Brazil will be held August 27/September 7,
1980. Nine U.S. livestock cooperators and several state groups plan to
have representatives at this international event. The USA exhibit booth
will have approximately 1000 sq. ft. of enclosed space, comprised of
individual meeting rooms, lounge and reception areas, staffed with
bilingual receptionists. It will be managed by the Agricultural Attache

Japanese beef purchases. The Livestock Industry Promotion Corporation of
Japan has just announced purchases of 1,777 metric tons of grain-fed
quality beef. A total of 1,433.8 metric tons was awarded to the United
States and 343.2 metric tons of Canada. The purchase consisted of 620.4
metric tons of short plates, 141 metric tons of strip loins and 190.2
metric tons of skirt plates. Of these totals 250.4 metric tons of square
chucks and 88 metric tons of short plates were awarded to Canada.

Jaoanese food standards. The Foreign Agricultural Service is compiling a list
of Japanese food standards which are impeding U.S. food exports to Japan. In-
formation on Japanese regulations regarding food additives, fungicide residues,
etc., which are interfering with U.S. exports should be forwarded to:
