Foreign Trade Developments

Taiwan planning increased imports of Holsteins. The governments of Taiwan
is encouraging a sharp boost in dairy cow numbers from an estimated 22,000
head in 1980 to 58,000 head by 1986. According to preliminary projections,
Taiwan expects to import 2,000 head of dairy cattle in 1981, 3,000 head
each year from 1982 through 1985, and 2,000 head in 1986. Virtually all
dairy cattle in Taiwan are Holsteins. 100 U.S. dairy cattle were export to
Taiwan in 1980. Imports of frozen bull semen are also seen rising
significantly (U.S. sales totalled $133,000 in 1980). For more information

SUSTA International Food Show. The Seventh International Food and
Agricultural Trade show (IFA) will be held in the Rivergate Exhibition
Center in New Orleans, March 16-17, 1982. Sponsored by the Southern United
States Trade Association (SUSTA), in cooperation with the Foreign
Agricultural Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, this show is
the largest food exhibit in the United States that is devoted exclusively
to the export markets. More than 150 exhibitors from 30 states and Puerto
Rico are scheduled to display a wide variety of food and agricultural
exports. These will include fresh, frozen, canned and dehydrated products,
fruits and vegetables, beef, pork, poultry, rice, seafood, snack items,
dairy products, feedstuffs and grains, confectionary products, and a myraid
