DEP;-J-o January 16, 1968 U.S. DEPOSITORy Chick Production Hatcheries produced 239 million chicks during December 1967, a decrease of 6 percent from the 253 million in December 1966, according to the Crop Reporting Board. The number of broiler-type chicks hatched totaled 212 million, down 3 percent from a year earlier. During January through December 1967, there were 2,746 million broiler-type chicks hatched compared with 2,748 million in the same months last year. The number of broiler-type eggs in incubators on January 1, 1968 was the same as January 1, 1'967. The number of egg-type chicks hatched during December 1967 is estimated at 26.9 million, a decrease of 24 percent from a year earlier. All regions recorded decreases as follows: North Atlantic, 28 percent; North Central, 18 percent; South Atlantic, 36 percent; South Central, 24 percent, and West, 17 percent. The hatch of egg-type chicks during the 12 months of 1967 totaled 537 million, down 6 percent from the same period a year earlier. The number of egg-type eggs in incubators on January 1, 1968 was down 21 percent from January 1, 1967. Poult Production Poult production of all breeds during December 1967 totaled 3,322, 000, down 28 percent from the December 1966 hatch of 4, 623, 000 poults. The hatch of heavy breed poults during December was 2,461,000, down 30 percent from a year earlier. Light breeds totaled 861, 000, down 22 percent from December 1966. There were 136,900,000 poults hatched during the period January through December 1967, an increase of 5 percent from 1966. The number of heavy breed turkey eggs in incubators on January 1, 1968 was down 39 percent from January 1, 1967, and the number of light breed eggs in incubators on January 1 was down 24 percent. Total eggs in incubators for all breeds on January 1, 1968 were down 37 percent from a year earlier.
