.^ 5 ~CURRENT INDUSTRIAL REPORTS r U.S. Department of Commerce BUREAU OF THE CENSUS BUREAU OF INDUSTRIAL ECONOMICS Total net shipments of titanium mill products decreased in 1981 by 6 percent to 51.0 million short tons compared to 54.3 million short tons in 1980. Net shipments of sheet;strip, plate, extrusions, and pipe and tubing increased by 4 percent to 18.2 million short tons in 1981 compared to 17.6 million short tons in 1980. Net shipments of forging and extrusion billet increased by 6 percent to 27.5 million short tons in 1981 compared to 25.9 million short tons in 1980. Net shipments of rod and bar and fastener stock and wire decreased by 16 percent to 9.1 million short tons in 1981 as compared to 10.8 million short tons in 1980. Total shipments of castings increased by 9 percent to 4.2 million short tons compared to 3.8 million short tons in 1980. Titanium Mill Products, Ingot, and Castings DECEMBER 1981 ITA-991(811 12 Issued April 1982 This report contains figures for production, receipts, and net shipments of titanium mill products and castings for January through December 1981. Publication of the series was sus- pended following the February 1981 report to permit a thorough review of the reporting practices of all manufacturers participat- ing in the survey. Figures for titanium ingot continue to be withheld pending completion of the review or reports filed by ingot producers. The statistics in this report are based on a survey of all known producers of titanium ingot, mill products, and castings. Estimates are included for companies whose reports were not received in time for tabulation. A complete description of the survey methodology and related information may be found in the 1980 annual summary report for this series, ITA-991 (80)-13, issued April 1981. Table 1.
