April 3, 1930.

Hon.Doyle E. Carlton,
.Governor Of Florida,
Tallahassee, Florida.

My dear Governort
We in Marion county were'highly gratified when your annpunoe
meant onme out calling for a ol'an-up day to remove host fruits and vege-
tables from groves ond fields. It is a move in th" right direction -nd
undoubtedly much good will b aoomplished. A one-dqy cleanup campaign
however, will not Pooonplish whn.t must 'be done if we are to keep the
fl menaoe in chock. It will require ot least two weeks to do the job
thoroughly nnd completely, nnd I spesk from some knowledge of what was
done in LMarlon cninty Inat year, r-nd wh-'t we nre pr paring to do ag.in
this summer.
S The rarion county oloanup plan, whioh I mentioned in my
previous letter on this subject, hns been approved not only by Dr.
Newell, who recommended its adoption in other counties, but by r-fer-
ence to the inclosed cl-3prin house bulletin, which 'has just been
received, you will note thnt the oitrus growers themselves think
highly of it.
Mipht I suggest that were you tb stretch your clean-up
da.y over a period of two weeks and use the Marion county plan for
at organization set up, onlling on oivic bodies, county rnd city
officials to put it into effect, it would be tremendously effective
and redound to your credit. Cleaning up all host fruits nnd vegeta-
bles, as I see it, in the most necessary .thinr- for Floridn to do
if the fly is to bn h-0ld in check.
With all good wishes, I r main.,

Yours sincerely#
