Thomas J. Walker's Bibliography

Uncertainties as to what copyright problems might prevent open access to the PDF versions of journal articles published long ago but still of interest led Thomas J. Walker [TJW] to start this Collection. Once IR@UF staff had reported their findings, the situation proved better than expected in that few journals in which he had published prohibited his posting of PDFs on IR@UF. Table 1 lists 19 journals in which TJW published articles he deemed likely to be favorably regarded in considerations of promotion and salary. The rights statements applied and the number of articles published are listed for 17 of these journals. The remaining two journals are published by the Entomological Society of America [ESA]. Table 2 reveals that ESA has two other journals in which TJW published and that ESA varied its copyright policies during the years that TJW published in its journals (1957-2009). Of special note is that, from 1999 through 2014, ESA offered “open access reprints” to its authors at a modest price. These reprints allowed the authors unlimited use of the PDF files of their articles.

The bibliography below is in chronological order (earliest to latest) and contains all of TJW's major publications as well as many minor ones. By clicking on the title of an entry, users can view its PDF, from which they can print or save the content. Before users print or save the content, they should consider if their intended use qualifies them to have the content under the Fair Use provisions of copyright law. If it does not, they should check the copyright status of the items they intend to print or download. To do so, they should click “Description” at upper left in the PDF viewer, select “Standard View,” and scroll to the bottom of the page to find the Rights Management statement.

If users have any questions about these items or how to access them, they may click here.

To make it easier for those interested in finding (or skipping) bibliographic entries that pertain to five recurring subjects, the bibliography is further delineated among subjects, as follows:

1. Crickets and Katydids

2. Caribbean Studies

3. Butterfly Migrations

4. Other Projects (including work on Open Access)

5. Book Review
