The Florida Federation of Women's Clubs maintained Royal Palm State Park for over 30 years. May Mann Jennings and the other club women were responsible for a variety of management issues, include the surveying of trees and wildlife, hiring and supervising caretakers, and working with state and local governments to promote and sustain the Park. They sought to preserve the natural scenery, but many of the women also saw the Park as a tourist destination. They lobbied for canals, roads, and other "improvements" intended to both protect and beautify the Park. Jennings, in particular, was interested in improving the Park for the enjoyment of tourists, and she took a lead role in designing a Park lodge for visitors.
