Content description: Silk Jacquard weave tapestry portrait of Maréchal Pétain in military dress uniform; oak leaf pattern on white background; this weaving served as the final exam for a student seeking to be promoted to the rank of Artisan Chart Compositor, the artisan responsible for punching a series of holes in cardboard pattern cards which are used in weaving and which allow the weaver to execute a work exactly as it was originally conceived by the artist.
