SACRAMENTO Govemor Pta Wilson today praised Speaker Newt Gingrich and
members of the Califoria Congressional Delegation for their efforts in se inag S429 mitlidn
beginning Federal Fiscal Year ( FY) 1998 to implement the Bay-DeltaAgremment

"I applaud the efforts of Spaker Gingrich, Congressmen Bil BBaker, David Draar, George
Radanovich, tbh Califomia Congressional Delegation. Califafia Secretay of State Bif Jones and
State Senator Jim Costa for pushing though this pledge of federal funding to ensure the sate's
wsrer needs are met well into the nex century." Wilson said.

At a press conference held today in Washington, D.C, Speaker OingCch, members of the
Califonia Congressional Delegation, Secretary of State Jones and Senator Cost announced the
annual authorization of $143 million for later appropriation by Congress, will begin in FFY 1998
and continue through FFY 2000. The money will be used for water quality and supply
improvements in the Bay-Delta, to protect the environment and Calif(oia's economic fuatno

On Tuesday, Wilon met with Speaker Gingrich to discuss the need for a commitment from
the federal government ~hat it would meet its financial rasponabilities under the Bay-Delta Accord.
