Appoints Historian

Bradley G. Brewer, executive ing research in Spanish docudirector of the St. Augustine mentary material and crossHistorical Restoration and Pres- checking material with cartographic, archaeological and archervation Commission, announced itectural evidence. Melzer, prestoday the appointment of John ently living in Waverly, AlaT. S. Melzer as historian for. the bama,. will commence his duties with the commission on Monday, September 16.
Melzer graduated from University High School in Lexington, Ky.; received his A.B. degree from Auburn University in June, 1961,- and his Master of Arts in history from the University of ,Virginia in August of 1964. Hehas been the recipient of fellowships from the University of Indiana, Florida State University, Auburn University, and the University of New Mexico. He has been an instructor at Georgetown College in Kentucky, at Arlington State College in Arlington, Texas; an Assistant Professor of History at Columbus College in Columbus, Ga. He is a member of the American Association of University Professors and the Kentucky Archaeological Society, and the Alabama Archaeological Society. During four summers he served as a staff member of Philmont Boy Scout Ranch. John Melzer Brewer, iii announcing Melzer's
