CERVEAU HOUSE

Constructed about 1870, this house is typical of the breeze-oriented Florida-Georgia coastal style popular from 1850 to 1890. Tall windows and broad porches on the east and south sides allowed full advantage of prevailing winds in the summer, while few or no windows on the north and west kept out wintry blasts. Original cypress shingles were found beneath the deteriorated tin roof on this dwelling, and were accordingly replaced by identical ones. The sweptdirt yard was likewise typical of mid-19th century Florida before the development of suitable lawn grass in this area.
