My dear Sir:-

I have just been informed by iy friend Bell, that Mr

6. H.Dickinson of Tsil l: 1issee may be an ril.J.icant for the posi-

tion of Private Secretary. I just want-fo lay without the solic-

itation of him, that if he does and his rl:ioinment meets with

your approbation, you could not make an a~p'oinment th t wouldgive

more universal satisfaction.

I have known Mr. Dickinson fter a number of years

and no matter when you visit the Governor's office you find him

always ready and willing to serve you. His experience and wide

acquaintance I feel, fully equip him for this important position.

You, of course, will be the judge in making your

selection and it should be done according to your plans and-ideas

and I will say, no matter who he may be it will be acceptable to

me.

Hoping to have the pleasure of meeting you soon, and

with best wishes for your future success, I have the honor to be,

Sincerely yours,

Dear Sir;-

There is a movement on foot which has so far met

with a considerable degree of favor in several parts of this.

State, looking to the establislr.ent of a Sugar Experiment

Station; The object of which is to develop, and prove to

Capitalists and others interested in this industry, the

adaptability of our soil .to sugar growing, and its great

advantages for that purpose over other sugar growing districts

of the world and the United States in particular. To that end

a bill wil' be introduced in the coming Legislatu--e askih:

for the endowment of such an Institution by appropriation or

grant of land.

It is a subject worthy of the deeper' consideration,

being of great importance, and if established, certain to

wield a powerful influence in the attraction of both Capital

and. Immigration. I respectfully request that you give the

subject your earnest consideration, so that wren the Legisla-

ture meets, you will be prepared to discuss it intelligently.

Yours truly

-Con -ssioner of Agriculture.
