Caribbean High Commissioners First Official Visit to
S Scotland. 12-13 June, 2008, Edinburgh
The Caribbean Council is organising the first ever official visit to Scotland by the
High Commissioners from the Commonwealth Caribbean to the UK. During their
two-day programme the High Commissioners will be officially hosted at the Scottish
Parliament by the Presiding Officer, and will meet with Ministers from the Scottish
Government as well as the Opposition spokespersons.

Their programme will also include a round-table event with representatives of Scottish businesses
to discuss current trade and investment relations between Scotland and the Caribbean and look
at where the opportunities are to increase these existing links and develop new areas of
business.

If your company is based in Scotland, or has a strong presence in Scotland, and you would like to

Cuba Initiative: Farewell Drinks for Lord Moynihan
16 June, 2008, La Bodeguita del Medio, Kensington, London
Lord Moynihan (pictured) stepped down from his position as Chairman of the Cuba
Initiative in early 2008. To thank him for his commitment over six years, the new
Chairman of the Cuba Initiative, Ian Taylor MP, will host a reception at La Bodeguita
Del Medio Restaurant in Kensington on Monday 16 June. Cocktails will be served
and a band will provide background music. The event has been supported by La Bodeguita del
Medio and Havana Holdings.

Anyone who wishes to book dinner after the event can do so directly with the restaurant. A menu
is available from the Cuba Initiative office for those interested in booking dinner. Reservations
must be made directly with the restaurant 020 7938 4147.

Invitations have now been sent to members and friends of the Cuba Initiative. Any CBBC
members who are interested in attending should contact Stephanie Whittle

New Suriname Ambassador to London
The Suriname Ambassador, HE Ms. U. Joella-Sewnundun, who is resident in The Hague, will
present her credentials to The Queen on Tuesday 10 June. Any CBBC members with a particular
interest in Suriname who would like the opportunity to meet the new Ambassador should contact
Eileen Molloy Eileen.molloy@caribbean-council.orq.


New British Ambassador to Cuba to call on Cuba
THE CUBA Initiative Executive Business Committee
Prior to her departure for Havana in July, the British Ambassador to Cuba,
Dianna Melrose, will be meeting with the Cuba Initiative's leadership and Executive Business
Committee. Before taking up her new role, she was Head, Enlargement & SE Europe Group,
Europe Directorate with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). Prior to this she has held
a variety of roles in the FCO and Department for International Development (DFID), including
Head of the International Trade Department of DFID. Any Cuba Initiative or CBBC Premier
Members who have issues that they would like raised should contact Stephanie Whittle

Trinidad & Tobago Professional Network UK (TTPN UK), in conjunction with the High Commission for the Republic of Trinidad and
Tobago, London will be hosting an Education Forum to be held at the offices of the High Commission on Tuesday 10th June, 2008 from
6.30 p.m. until 8.30 p.m.

This Forum will seek to provide an open platform for educationalists, practitioners and others to hear about and discuss the needs of
the Education Sector in T&T and explore the contributions that professionals resident in the UK can make. The Forum will be moderated

Carnival de Cuba Confirms Charanga
Habanera as Headline Act for 2008

Charanga Habanera, a successful Cuban act, has been confirmed
to top the bill of the 2008 Carnival de Cuba in London. The
island's reggaeton sensation Eminencia Clasica will be on the
main stage and the legendary Ricardo Levya of Sur Caribe will be

Open for the Royal Show

Cacao on the tracks of Jorge Amad: Exhibition of Photographs by Luca Rinaldini

Canning House is showing an exhibition of photographs by Italian Photographer Luca Rinaldini, from his trip across Asia, Central and
South America. Luca visited Cacao plantations in Brazil 2004 and his photographs are accompanied by texts from Jorge Amado's novels
set around the Cocoa farming. This event is free of charge and will be running Monday Friday, 2-6pm until 6 June. If you are
