Special the Irnrokalee Bulletin
Local residents in Irnrokalee were blessed to have a large amount
of free labor provided by 20 volunteers from Safety Harbor United
Methodist Church. The group of teenagers and sponsors, many of
whorn were part of a volunteer group here in 2009, spent the week
repairing several hornes in Irnrokalee. They spent their week repair-
ing walls, floors, bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchens and roofs on three
separate homes, one on Ringo Lane, and one in Tara Park and one
in Eden Park. The mobile homes had sustained considerable water
darnage, and needed to have roofs repaired and sealed. The interiors
of the homes have sustained considerable darnage that made living
conditions unbearable.
The work being done on these mobile
homes is another example of the value
of partnership brokered by the staff of I
HOPE. The Cornrunity Foundation of ~
Collier County through its Irnrokalee
Initiative has provided funding for Inateri-
als to do the work; Horne Depot has pro-
vided sorne of the supplies-carpeting and

Just a few days ago Genoveva
Martinez and her daughter, Eva,
were excited to move into their
new horne, provided free of charge
through a partnership between
IHOPE, Inc. and Collier County.
Through the DRI-2 (Disaster Relief
Incentive) funds provided by the
federal government I HOPE, Inc.
was able to provide the sixth of
seven 'green' hornes to Genoveva.

Residents should be aware that the Irnrokalee Water and Sewer
Department will be temporarily changing the disinfection process for
the potable (drinking water) supply. From August 16-August 30, IWSD
will disinfect the water with free chlorine rather than combined chlo-
rine/arnronia chloramineses. This conversion to chlorine (which is
a stronger disinfectant) from chloramines (which is a longer-lasting
disinfectant) allows IWSD to perform a water distribution systern
purge as recornrend by the Department of Environmental Protection
for water utilities using chloramines as their primary disinfectant. This
change will start at 8 a.In. on August 16 and IWSD will then return to
the chloramines disinfection process on August 30 at 8 a.rn.
This temporary change does not cause adverse health effects. How-
ever, during the period customers may experience a slight increase in
the taste, odor and color of the water due to the change in treatment.
Customers on kidney dialysis who use a proportioning machine
to prepare dialysate at horne are advised to contact their equipment
supplier or physician take any appropriate steps to accornrodate the
change in water disinfection and to install the proper filtering devices.
Customers who have fish tanks or other aquatic species are ad-

much of the labor along with I HOPE staff,

July 10, 2010 the Fraternal Order of Ea-
gles Ladies Auxiliary #4108 of Immokalee
sold spaghetti dinner plates, bake sale items
and had car wash along with a raffle, to
raise money for the college bound students
of their Auxiliary. A total of $2,300.00 was
raised. In order for the students to get the
money they had to write letters to the Auxil-
iary telling a little about themselves and their
educational plans, wash cars at the car wash
and attend the dinner in their honor held on
July 28.
The five students were: Ryan Ayala, who
will graduate from the Baptist College of
Florida in Graceville, FL. with a Bachelors
Degree in Biblical Studies in December 2010

with plans to continue his education and get
his Master degree at Southwestern Theologi-
cal Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX., beginning
January 2011. Ryan is a 2007 graduate of
Immokalee High School
Armando Ayala II, who will be attending
Utica College in Utica New York beginning
this fall to pursue his Bachelors degree in
Therapeutic Recreation and to play football
for the Utica Pioneers as a Middle Lineback-
er. Armando is a 2010 graduate of LaBelle
High School. Armando and Ryan Ayala are
the sons of Armando and Kathy Ayala and
big brothers to AJ.
Samantha Molina, who will be attending
Ave Maria University in the Fall.

Samantha is the daughter of Sally Marino.
She is a 2010 graduate of Immokalee High
School.
Andrea Ayala, who attends Florida State
University and is currently going into her
sophomore year seeking her degree in Nurs-
ing. Andrea is the daughter of Eddie and
Tammy Ayala and the big sister to Horacio
Ayala. She is a 2009 graduate of Immokalee
High School.
Marcos Ocanos will be attending Univer-
sal Technical Institute in Orlando Florida. He
will earn an EPA Certification in Automotive
Technology. He ls the son of Marcos and Flo-
reida Ocanas. Marcos is a 2010 graduate of
Immokalee High School.

The students and the Ladies Auxiliarywish
to thank the community and the members
of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Immokalee
for supporting them in this fundraiser. With-
out their support this would not have been a
success. A very special thanks to the follow-
ing businesses and people for donating raffle
items: Everglades Farm Equipment, For That
New Look, Immokalee Tires, Styles on the
Edge (Lisa and Justin), VIP Nails, D.L. Salon,
Lake Trafford Marina, Julius Sanders, Zach's

Department Store, Popeye's Chicken, Alicia
Avalos, Hilda Irizzary and Isabel Ayala.

A female panther was struck by a vehicle
on SR 28 about five miles south of Immoka-
lee in the early morning hours of August 2.
The pregnant female, which was mid-term

with three fetuses, survived the collision but
died the next day.
She did not have a kinked tail or cow-
lick. This is the eleventh panther road kill for
2010.
Two of the endangered animals have died
as a result of intraspecies aggression thus far
this year.
A necropsy will be performed and the re-
mainS deposited at the Florida Museum of
Natural History.
The last panther to die in the area was
a 16-18 month-old male on SR 29 south of

VOE summer library success
Recently, students at Village Oaks Elementary School (VOE) celebrated a
summer of great reading. For the second year, students were able to visit the
school's library twice a week thanks to a grant from the Immokalee Founda-
tion. When students came to the library they could read, use the computer,
and check out books to take home. Some 50 students checked out more than
300 books! Research says that students need to read at least five books over
the summer to retain their reading level. At the Summer Library Celebration,
21 students earned awards for reading from 5 to 23 books. And, a special
medal for frequent attendance was earned by ten students. Many students
also brought little brothers and sisters who were able to listen to books on
tape. Congratulations to the students who did such a great job reading over
the summer, and many thanks to the Immokalee Foundation for making Sum-
mer Library 2010 possible
