PREFACE.

I mrHA taken the trouble to copy the epitaphs from
the tombstones on the graves in the c metcries in the
town of Belize. as well as the epitaphs and inscriptions
from the tablets in the cLhrches.
I have also copied the epitaphs on the tombstones
at St. George's Cave.
In this volume I have only published those front
the following place ; hoping they will be of interest
to the public-viz. the Cathedral of St. -John the
Baptist p. 9 the Cathedral Churchyard,* p. 28;
the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, p. 29 ; the Cathedral
of the Holy Redeemer, p. 35 ; the Military Cemetery,*
p. 42 ; the St. George's Caye C(metery, p. 44 ; the Con-
tagious Diseases Cemetery,* p. the Wesley Church,
p. 61 the Ebenezer Church, p. 63.
The epitaphs from the tombstones the other
cemeteries in the town of Belize I have reserved for
another volume.
